Diamond Education
The Greek word for diamond, "adamas," means "unbreakable." Diamonds are the hardest raw materials on earth and have long been adored for decorative purposes. They consist of crystalized carbon that has been forged in immense heat (about 1,250°C) and under high pressure (40-60 atmospheres) at depths of 150-200 kilometers below Earth's surface. Volcanic activity sends the raw crystals to the surface. Most diamonds are over 100 million years old.
4Cs of the Diamond
Carat
The "carat" is the unit of weight by which diamonds are traditionally measured. One carat is equal to one-fifth of a gram (0.2g). Each carat is subdivided into 100 points. The abbreviation for carat is Ct.
Diamond Cut
Diamonds in this range are considered the finest and exhibit a rare and stunning interaction between light and the stone's facets. They reflect the light better than any other category of diamonds.
Diamond Clarity
This clarity level is considered flawless or internally flawless. These diamonds do not exhibit inclusions. Internally flawless diamonds may exhibit only faint external blemishes which are removable by polishing. Flawless and internally flawless diamonds are very rare.
Diamond Color
D-rated diamonds are the finest and rarest. These rare examples have the clearest white (colorless) appearance and thus the highest value.
What is a Diamond Certificate?
Diamonds are natural stones so each one comes with unique internal and external characteristics. In addition to size and color, birthmarks inside the diamond have an impact on its rating. The value of a diamond is based on the combination of all these qualities.
The four characteristics that are used to classify diamonds, known as the "4Cs of the diamond," are color, clarity, cut, and carat. These are evaluated by diamond professionals and often get documented in detail. The documentation is called a grading report or diamond certificate. Diamond certificates are important because they show the quality and value of your diamond.
GL Certified Diamonds
All GL diamonds are carefully selected from accredited diamond suppliers in countries that participate in the Kimberley Process. Gl-certified diamonds have an H Color, VS clarity, and Very Good cut. We work with GL-certified diamonds as well as GIA-certified diamonds.
GIA Certified Diamonds
Many local and international diamond grading institutes create their own diamond certificates. Among them are GIA, HRD, IGI, AGS, and other certifications. The Gemological Institute of America, or GIA, is a nonprofit organization focused on gemology and is the most widely known and respected diamond grading institute in the world.
